The Bird Cage Theater was one of those Old West places that belonged in Vegas. The theater boasted burlesque and vaudeville productions along with walls riddled with bullet holes.
The very first female impersonator in 1884 was on the Bird Cage stage. After midnight men dressed in women's period lingerie, paraded on stage in vulgar language and actions. Other acts included the dog and pony acts, trained seals and Swiss bell ringers, but the main attraction was the men.
