The Marvels of Medicine

One enterprising doctor lived in and around Tombstone in the early days.  His specialty was in occupational sickness of the region - namely, gun shot wounds resulting in lead poisoning.  He developed an electric device powered by magnetic coils for locating and extracting the bullets of a gunshot wound in the human body.

In fact, when President Garfield was assassinated at the B&O train depot in Washington, DC, surgeons sent for the doctor in the Southwest who had the ability to extract bullet wounds.  The used the new technology to locate the fatal bullet in Garfield's body, but it was way to late to matter to Garfield, but the doctor had become famous for his invention.
