The Rose of Cimmaron

And finally there is Rose Dunn, married to George Newcomb, one of the greatest outlaws of all time, and a member of the Doolin Gang.

In the spring of 1893, the story goes that Doolin and the guys robbed the Cimmaron National Bank of Kansas, and went into hiding near Stillwater, Oklahoma.  George was Bill Doolin's lieutenant and very handsome according to history.

Five months later the Feds show up at Mrs. Pierce's Hotel  armed and ready. The Doolin's were ready.  The Battle of Ingalls followed was one of the epic battles of the vanishing Old West.  Doolin, Bittercreek (George), Bob Dalton, Tulsa Jack Blake, and Dynamite Dick Clifton hid out in the stables, running and firing pistols and rifles.

Right alongside them ran Rose, loading, carrying ammo and spare guns.

Next time - the conclusion to the Battle of Ingalls...
