Frontier Fridays: Our Ancestors' Antidotes for Poison

Poison Antidotes from the 1800s - early 1900s
These are before 911 or easily accessed medical care.  Home remedies were popular but  Do not use these - get medical help immediately!!

all of these are by mouth...

Alcohol poisoning:  Mustard and water
Arsenic: Sulphate of Zinc followed by olive oil
Bedbug Poisoning: White of egg
Carbolic Acid: Milk, white of egg, olive oil
Chloroform: salt and water followed by whiskey
Creosote: Flour and water
Cyanide: Salt and water followed by black coffee and brandy
Ether: Salt and water, coffee, brandy or whiskey
Gas:  fresh air, dose of brandy
Iodine: Arrowroot and water
Lead: Mustard and water with dose of Epsom Salts
Lime: Vinegar and water followed by flour and water
Lye: Vinegar and water with milk or sweet oil
Decayed Meat: Salt and water plus Epsom salts and brandy
Mercury: Milk or whites of egg
Muriatic Acid:  Soapsuds
Morphine: Strong black coffee, then mustard and salt, teaspoon of each in warm water, keep moving.
