Tourists and Traders

The 1833 fur trapping rendezvous was the last good year for real fur trapping.  In the following year tourists, missionaries, and money seekers began to come.  1833 was however, probably the most spectacular year for all rendezvous.

On William Stewart, was the first tourist to attend, the yearly fur trapping "convention", after hearing about a month long fur trapping party.  He came to pray for the trappers and make money off them as well.

Along with Stewart was Benjamin Harrison, future president of the United States, whose father sent him west to cure his alcoholism...wonder how well that went at the fur trapping party atmosphere?

Next time...The Midnight Wolf
