What was the Tombstone, Arizona key to popularity in the 1870-80s?
The "Tombstone Lode" was one of the richest silver veins in the West! It was discovered in 1877 by Edward Schieffelin. The Tombstone Mining District and the town of Tombstone became a major economic and social center of the Southwest. (See new Quiz for this week on the left)
